The Black German Heritage and Research Association (BGHRA) is collaborating with the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures and the Cinema Studies Institute at the University of Toronto in hosting this 3-day SSHRC-funded conference, to foster international engagement with the social and cultural history of Black Germans.
The event will feature:
- keynote addresses by Fatima El-Tayeb and Noah Sow
- a screening of “On Second Glance” (dir. Sheri Hagen, 2012) at TIFF’s Bell Lightbox with filmmaker in attendance
- a dance-music-word tribute to Afro-German poet and activist May Ayim by guest artists Layla Zami and Oxana Chi
All presentations and cultural events sponsored by this conference are open to the public. However, the lunches on May 24 and May 25, and the closing reception on May 25, require prepaid advance registration. Your registration badge, retrievable on May 24 and 25 at the conference hospitality table stationed in Innis College lobby, secures entry to these catered events, for which space is limited.
Early registration is encouraged and closes May 1, 2018.
Registrations are non-refundable.
